Elizabeth N. Nabeta

The Ugandan American Nakuwadde Mission Project (UANMP) was founded by Elizabeth Nabeta. Elizabeth was raised in Uganda and migrated to the United States in the early 80’s after her husband was killed. She arrived in the country with a young daughter, Vivian, in tow and instead of feeling sorry for herself, she vowed to succeed so she could give back. One of the places that she wanted to give back to was her village, Nakuwadde. A single mother in a foreign country, Elizabeth went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, and a Master’s in Public Health.  During all the time, she never forgot her motherland. She never forgot the silent promise that she made to herself to help her community. And 2011, UANMP was born. By this time the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 80’s and 90’s had ravaged Uganda. Hospitals were full of new patients, and children were losing parents. With that in mind Elizabeth, and after consulting with Nakuwadde residents and elders, she decided to build a multi-functional space that could serve as a community and health center. Sadly, Elizabeth passed away in 2018, but the Board of Directors, lead by her daughter will see her plan through to its completion.
